Compress JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF Images Online
CyberTools Image Compressor offers two deliberately separate workflows. Private Browser mode compresses JPG, PNG and WebP files locally without uploading the image. Advanced Server mode uses Imagick for AVIF output, HEIC input, target-size searches, encoder effort, resizing and optional metadata preservation.
The interface reports the original bytes, compressed bytes, percentage saved, output dimensions and format. Because images differ in detail, noise and existing optimization, no honest compressor can promise the same reduction for every file.

Choose the Processing Mode Before Uploading Sensitive Images
Private Browser mode does not upload the selected image. Advanced Server mode does upload it temporarily, because the server must read and encode the file. The generated temporary output is deleted after it is sent, and normal PHP upload cleanup removes the request file.
Preserving metadata can retain camera details, capture dates or GPS information. Leave Preserve Metadata disabled when privacy matters.
How to Compress an Image Online
- Choose Private Browser or Advanced Server mode.
- Upload a supported image within the limit displayed for that mode.
- Select Smart, Lossy, Lossless or Target Size when available.
- Keep the original format or choose JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.
- Set quality and encoder effort where applicable.
- Optionally reduce maximum width and height without upscaling.
- Decide whether advanced mode should preserve metadata.
- Review the measured result and download the compressed image.
Private Browser Mode
Private mode accepts JPG, PNG and WebP files up to 20 MB, subject to a 24-megapixel safety limit. Canvas encoding occurs locally. JPG output places transparency on white; PNG preserves transparent pixels; WebP provides efficient photographic and web-asset compression.
Browser encoders vary slightly between Chrome, Safari, Firefox and other browsers. A quality value is therefore a useful control, not a universal visual standard.
Advanced Server Mode
Advanced mode accepts files up to the server upload limit currently shown in the interface, with JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC accepted when recognized by the server. It can output JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. HEIC input defaults to a web-compatible output when Original is selected.
The endpoint validates the detected MIME type, rejects animated files and images above 24 megapixels, applies rate limiting and deletes generated output after the response.
Smart, Lossy and Lossless Compression
Smart mode aims for a practical balance and may keep an already efficient private-mode original when re-encoding would make it larger. Lossy mode trades some image information for smaller output.
True lossless advanced output is available for PNG and WebP. JPG and AVIF are not presented as lossless because re-encoding those formats cannot honestly guarantee identical pixel data under this workflow.
Target File Size Is an Approximation
Advanced Target Size mode tests several quality levels for JPG, WebP or AVIF and keeps the highest candidate at or below the requested byte target when possible. It cannot guarantee that every image will reach an extremely small target.
Pixel dimensions and image complexity frequently matter more than the quality number. If a detailed photograph cannot reach the target acceptably, reduce its maximum width and height instead of forcing severe artifacts.
Quality, Encoder Effort and File Size
Quality controls the lossy trade-off between visual fidelity and bytes. Encoder effort asks the server to spend more work finding an efficient representation; higher effort may take longer and does not guarantee a dramatic reduction.
Flat graphics, screenshots, noisy photographs and already optimized images respond differently. Judge the preview and measured bytes rather than assuming one quality setting fits every image.
Resize While Compressing
Reducing width and height lowers the number of pixels that must be stored and can save more space than aggressive quality reduction. The tool preserves aspect ratio, fits within both maximum dimensions and never enlarges the source.
For upload portals with strict limits, a moderately resized high-quality image often looks better than a full-size image compressed at very low quality.
JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF
JPG is widely compatible and effective for photographs but cannot store transparency. PNG is best for transparency, diagrams, interface captures and hard edges, though photographic PNG files can be large.
WebP supports transparent and photographic web assets with broad modern-browser support. AVIF can achieve excellent compression but requires Advanced Server mode and may encode more slowly.
Metadata and EXIF Privacy
Private canvas export normally creates a new pixel file without the source EXIF payload. Advanced mode strips metadata by default. Enabling Preserve Metadata may keep camera, date, copyright or location profiles.
Auto-orientation is applied before output so photographs are not intentionally left rotated when orientation metadata is removed.
Avoid Repeated Lossy Compression
Every lossy re-encoding can introduce another generation of artifacts. Work from the best original available, perform resizing and format selection once, and compress only for the final delivery copy.
If the result is larger than the source, the original may already be well optimized. Try a modern format, reduce dimensions or keep the original rather than assuming another pass must help.

Are images uploaded in Private Browser mode?
No. JPG, PNG and WebP encoding happens locally in the browser in Private mode.
Are images uploaded in Advanced Server mode?
Yes. Advanced features require a temporary upload. The generated temporary output is deleted after it is sent, and the request upload is cleaned up by PHP.
Why is the advanced file limit lower than the private limit?
Advanced mode must obey the server upload and memory limits. Private mode uses the memory and encoder available on your own device.
Can the compressor guarantee an exact target size?
No. Target mode searches quality levels and aims to stay at or below the requested size, but extremely small targets may not be achievable for complex images.
Which formats support true lossless advanced compression?
PNG and WebP. JPG and AVIF are not offered as true lossless output in this workflow.
What happens to transparent pixels in JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are rendered over a white background.
Does compression remove GPS metadata?
Private canvas export and advanced mode with Preserve Metadata disabled create output without the source metadata. Enabling metadata preservation may retain GPS and camera information.
Why can a compressed image be larger?
The source may already be highly optimized, or the chosen format and quality may require more bytes. Try WebP or AVIF, resize the image, lower quality or keep the original.
