How to Setup Password Protection
Step 1: Save the .htpasswd File
Download the .htpasswd file and upload it to your server. It is highly recommended to place this file **outside** your public web directory (e.g., in /home/user/) for security.
Step 2: Apply Server Rules
Download or copy the .htaccess code and place it in the folder you want to protect. If you already have an .htaccess file, append these rules to the top.
Copy the Nginx rules into your site's server or location block within your Nginx configuration file (usually found in /etc/nginx/sites-available/).
Step 3: Restart/Reload
Apache usually picks up .htaccess changes instantly. For Nginx, you must reload the service using: sudo nginx -s reload.
